The Design Issue Study of Gaelic Culture
Abstract
This project was taken on based upon the current state of the Gaelic community within Nova Scotia. Extensive research into the history and current cultural status of the community and its language were documented and used as a basis for further exploration. During this process, visits from key Gaelic community members helped to focus the research process further and provided valuable insight into what kinds of solutions would be viable. We decided on creating a new Gaelic periodical that would function as an inter-language and inter-generational tool, preserving the culture and customs as well as presenting them to outside groups unfamiliar with the language. The periodical was divided into key sections that each reflected current issues and stressed the importance of the language to the widest body of people possible. It was our goal to not distill the oral component of the language, but to enhance and preserve it through a medium the can be readily available to the community and beyond.

Conclusion
This was an overall observatory process about Gaelic preservation and propagation of community. We studied this issue by looking at the Gaelic background, defining problems and informing upon them to come up with a probable solution. We explored what Gaelic is, where Gaelic is from, how it has developed, what problems exists now and how it becomes possible to solve the situation. Through the collective research process, we figured a hypothesis out – a quarterly periodical accompanied with a promotional poster. The editorial periodical uses bilingual in both English and Gaelic. The content includes four parts which are local and international news, political section and Gaelic society’s news, cultural and art news, and children’s entertainment. Every month people can read Gaelic news, so Gaelic culture and language will gradually integrate into people’s life. The editorial periodical will contribute to save and preserve the Gaelic culture and language and pass it onto future generations. The poster is the communication tool of Gaelic activities. Gaelic people will increase public awareness and appreciation of their culture by posting it in public area. Our group greatly cooperates and discusses the whole issue and hypothesis. This process of study will not only help us to know Gaelic, but also offer an amazing approach to help developing and preserving Gaelic culture
and language.
Those two excellent ideas will lead a brilliant future to Gaelic. Gaelic is a precious heritage of Nova Scotia. When more people know and focus on Gaelic news, the perilous state of Gaelic will be improved. The quarterly periodical Gaelic editorial periodical can provide multiple ways to help the natural transmission in the community. The Gaelic culture and language can be displayed in editorial periodicals from generation to generation. The editorial periodical can be a sign for the Gaelic developing. Gaels will have confidence and morale to continue their culture, because they know that a big society is orderly working by watch the Gaelic news every month. The editorial periodical will help the system of Gaelic society become more powerful and perfect. Because more people focus on the operation of Gaelic community, the pressure will push every side of Gaelic community being better. The editorial periodical and poster are the excellent and important improvement for Gaelic culture and language.
